Ring Warming Ceremony – A Charming Irish Wedding Tradition
One of the most beautiful Irish wedding traditions is the Ring Warming Ceremony. This heartfelt ritual is a wonderful way to begin your wedding ceremony and involve your guests in a meaningful way.
What is a Ring Warming?
A Ring Warming is when your wedding rings are passed around to each guest before or during the ceremony. Each guest holds the rings for a moment, offering a silent wish or blessing for your marriage, filling your rings with love and well wishes.
How to Do a Ring Warming
Step 1: Prepare Your Rings
Before the ceremony, secure your wedding rings on a ribbon, place them in a decorative box, or fasten them to a cushion.
Step 2: Explain to Your Guests
Your wedding celebrant (me) will introduce the Ring Warming Ceremony and explain how each guest can participate. This is usually done before the ceremony officially begins.
Step 3: Pass the Rings Around
Each guest will hold your rings for a few moments, silently wishing you happiness, love, and a bright future together. You can enhance the moment with soft music while the rings are passed.
Step 4: Return the Rings
Once every guest has held the rings, they are returned to the couple or handed to the ring bearer, ready for the ring exchange during the vows.
Why Include a Ring Warming Ceremony?
A Ring Warming Ceremony is a personal and intimate way to involve your wedding guests in your wedding day. Your rings become infused with the love and well-wishes of family and friends, making the moment even more special.
Tips for Larger Weddings
If your wedding has over 100 guests, passing the rings around may take time. Instead, you can:
Tie your rings to a ribbon and display them on a table or chair before the ceremony.
Place a small sign inviting guests to hold the rings and make a wish.
Ask your best person to watch over the rings and return them before the ceremony begins.
